GFI MailSecurity scans emails for viruses, trojans and other malware. If GFI MailSecurity is not able to scan all the email, the email should not be delivered to the recipient, since it may contain unsecure content.
When this happens, GFI MailSecurity will stop the delivery of the message, and a copy of the email is moved to <..\GFI\Content Security\MailSecurity\FailedMails> folder. The following message is also displayed in the GFI MailSecurity monitor:
'Item critically failed to be processed'
This may occur for corrupted emails, such as certain type of spam emails. You should contact GFI support if you find that legitimate emails are being moved to the ‘FailedMails’ folder, or that you have a lot of emails in this folder.
Once the issue is resolved, legitimate emails in the ‘FailedMails’ folder can be reprocessed as follows:
GFI MailSecurity installed on the same machine as Microsoft Exchange 2007:
- Rename the .TXT files located in the <..\GFI\Content Security\MailSecurity\FailedMails> folder with a .EML extension.
Example: 'email1.txt' needs to be renamed to 'email1.eml'
Note: You are able to quickly rename all .TXT files to .EML files by running the command 'Ren *.txt *.eml' in Command Prompt under the failed mails directoy.
- Move the renamed files you wish to reprocess to the <..\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Replay> folder.
GFI MailSecurity installed on the same machine as Microsoft Exchange 2003\2000:
- The emails need to be moved to the <..\Exchsvr\mailroot\vs1\Pickup> folder.
GFI MailSecurity installed in Gateway mode:
- The emails need to be moved to the: <..\Inetpub\mailroot\Pickup> folder.
Notes:
- The .PROP files in the <..\GFI\Content Security\MailSecurity\FailedMails> can be deleted as only the .TXT files are required. .
