Prepare the archive database

  1. The installation of GFI MailArchiver 4 and later creates a default database based on Firebird. If you want to archive data into this database, go to ‘Select the mail server to archive from’. Alternatively, if you want to archive data into another database, click the ‘Add Archive Store’ button, and follow the instructions in the ‘Archive Store Wizard’.

  2. When you complete the wizard, select the newly created archive store from the Archive in the following store drop down list.

  3. Click the ‘Save Settings’ button.

Select the mail server to archive from:

  1. From the navigation pane on the left hand side click on the ‘GFI MailArchiver’ -> ‘Configuration’ -> ‘Mail Servers to Archive’ node.

  2. The mail servers you configured and archived in GFI MailArchiver 3 are listed in the ‘Mail Servers to Archive’ page on the right hand side.
To allow you to configure where you want to archive emails before GFI MailArchiver 4 or later starts archiving emails, all mail servers listed have archiving disabled.

  3. To start archiving emails from the listed mail servers, click on the ‘Edit Settings’ icon for one of the Mail Servers listed.

  4. The ‘Mail Server Wizard’ is displayed. On the first page select the ‘Archive emails from this mail server’ option and click the ‘Finish’ button.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all the other mail servers listed in the ‘Mail Servers to Archive’ page.

  6. Click the ‘Save Settings’ button in the ‘Mail Servers to Archive page’ to save the configuration settings.

  7. If you want to archive emails from another mail server that is not listed, click the ‘Add Mail Server’ button, and follow the instructions in the ‘Mail Server Wizard’.

  8. When you complete the wizard, click the ‘Save Settings’ button in the ‘Mail Servers to Archive’ page.

That completes the upgrade from GFI MailArchiver 3 to GFI MailArchiver 4 or GFI MailArchiver 5. You can now browse through the emails previously archived by GFI MailArchiver 3 and any newly archived emails, by accessing the browse node under the Conversations node.
