Issue Encountered:
During installation some errors may be received causing the product not to be installed properly, or not to be installed at all. The following are examples of such an error:
Error 1720.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Or
Setup failed to launch installation engine: Access is denied.
Or
Error installing Ikernel.exe, access is denied.
Suggested solutions:
When such an issue occurs, you need to try the following solutions:
- Disable real-time scanning of anti-virus products or if any other real time software scanning your machine.
- Ensure that you do not have any software which automatically removes files from the TEMP directory.
- Log in the machine with the Domain Administrator account.
- Download and install the latest version of Windows Scripting Host & Windows Installer for your Windows Operating System from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/
- Ensure that the following Microsoft Windows technologies are installed correctly and not corrupt:
- Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
- Microsoft Windows Installer
- Microsoft .Net Framework
- Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)
- Ensure that the following system libraries located at <Windows\System32> are correctly registered:
- urlmon.dll
- Oleaut32.dll
- ole32.dll
- Actxprxy.dll
- Shell32.dll
- Shdocvw.dll
- Mshtml.dll
- Browseui.dll
- Scrrun.dll
To register a library with the operating system, perform the following steps:
- Click on ‘Start’ and select ‘Run’
- Type in ‘cmd.exe’ to bring up command prompt.
- Type in ‘regsvr32 <path & filename of dll>’
Example: ‘regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\urlmon.dll’
- Place the installation file in a temporary directory (Example C:\temp) on the machine where you are installing the GFI product.
- After doing the above, try to run the installation file again.
- Check Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) permissions as explained in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;295278
