Yes, Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and 2, and Windows XP Service Pack 2 are supported, however you will need to add the GFI MailSecurity scanning engine executable (GFiScanM.exe) and the Kaspersky virus scanning engine executable (kavss.exe) to the Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) exception list.

There are two ways to enter the GFI executables in the DEP exception list; Automatically or Manually.

Automatically:

When the GFI MailSecurity machine is restarted, pop up windows will inform the console operator that the above mentioned executables are  possibly malicious executables and will ask the user if he wishes to add  the executable to ‘Exception list’. If the operator chooses to add the executable to the exception list, the DEP configuration will be opened directly and the executable will be already in the list. The user has only to accept the configuration.

Manually:

  1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System.
  2. Through ‘Advanced’ tab access the Performance Settings.
  3. Change to Data Execution Prevention tab.
  4. Enable ‘Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:’ radio button.
  5. From the ‘Add’ command, Go to the <GFI\ContentSecurity\MailSecurity> folder and choose GFiScanM.exe
  6. Change to <GFI\ContentSecurity\AntiVirus\Kaspersky\> folder and select kavss.exe.
  7. Apply the changes.
  8. Restart the "GFI Content Security Auto-Updater Service" and the "GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine" services.
