GFI WebMonitor for ISA Server has been designed from the ground up to offer added functionality and speed to the features previously offered via GFI DownloadSecurity. This is because GFI felt that current and future technical requirements to perform web monitoring, security and access control required a full re-design of the product engine.

GFI DownloadSecurity used to share the GFI MailSecurity file processing scanning engine and focused on the administration and access control of downloaded files. Yet, web access and file download monitoring has an even larger scope in that it deals with any traffic going through the ISA Server. With this in mind, it was decided to create a new engine that was specifically aimed at web traffic processing and web abuse control; this forms GFI WebMonitor 3's chief component.

Apart from this, GFI WebMonitor offers various other advantages over the product it replaces, including:

  • Improved processing speed
  • Simultaneous connection support
  • Support for ISA Server arrays
  • Site rating support
  • Silent download monitoring (Optional usage of Download Progress window requiring user intervention)
  • Real file type detection processing with only the first set of downloaded bytes of the file.

Such changes were only possible through a totally re-engineered system.

GFI WebMonitor is bundled with the BitDefender virus engine, enabling it to scan all incoming HTTP and FTP downloads for known viruses. To achieve even greater security and benefit from scanning via multiple virus engines, users can add the Kaspersky SuperSecure anti-virus engine, available as an optional add-on.
