Issue Encountered:
You have configured GFI MailEssentials to move the spam emails to the users’ junk mail folder in Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007/2010, however all the emails are saved in the Inbox of the users.
Solution:
Microsoft Exchange server will not move any emails to the users' Junk email folder unless the feature is enabled manually from Outlook Web Access for each user. This can be done from the following locations:
Microsoft Exchange 2007: Microsoft Outlook Web Access -> 'Options' -> 'Junk E-mail' -> select the option 'Automatically Filter Junk E-mail'.
Microsoft Exchange 2003: Microsoft Outlook Web Access -> 'Options' -> 'Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention' section -> Enable the option 'Filter Junk E-mail'.
Microsoft Exchange 2010: Microsoft Outlook Web Access -> 'Options' -> 'Block or Allow' -> select the option 'Automatically Filter Junk E-mail'.
Notes:
-
The option to enable the Microsoft Exchange 2003 Junk email folder can also be done for all users using the script as per the article: http://blogs.technet.com/evand/archive/2005/01/31/363935.aspx
-
If GFI MailEssentials 12 and above is installed on a separate machine than Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010, follow the instructions at: KBID003079 to route emails to the users’ Junk Email folder.
-
If the email address of the sender has been added in the Microsoft Outlook safe senders list, emails will not be moved to the Junk E-mail folder
