Article ID: KBID001848

Query keywords: credentials, installation, installer

Issue Encountered:

Whilst performing the installation of your GFI solution, you are requested to specify which credentials will be used by the service. When the credentials are specified one of the following errors is returned:

  • ‘User Credentials validation failed. Username and/or Password are not valid.’
  • ‘Validation of User Credentials failed.’
  • ‘Validation of User Credentials failed. Username and/or Password are not valid.’
  • ‘The specified account's password has expired’

More Information:

The service credentials verification process requires network access to the computer were the GFI solution is being installed in order to successfully determine if the credentials are valid.

Solution:

Ensure that the user that you have supplied during the installation meets the following requirements:

  • You have supplied the correct username and password during the installation.

  • The user's password has not expired.

  • The user which you have defined during the installation has been listed in the ‘Access this computer from the network’ user rights assignment policy. You can confirm this from the following:
    1. Login onto the machine were you are installing the GFI Solution with administrative credentials.
    2. Click on ‘Start’ and select ‘Run’
    3. Type in ‘gpedit.msc’ to open Group Policy Object Editor.
    4. Under the ‘Local Computer Policy’ expand the ‘Computer Configuration’ and proceed to ‘Windows Settings’
    5. Expand ‘Security Settings’ then ‘Local Policies’
    6. Click on the ‘User Rights Assignment’ Node.
    7. On the right hand pane, right click on the ‘Access this computer from the network’ policy and select ‘properties’
    8. Ensure that the user being used is included within the list, if not then click on the ‘Add user or Group’ button to add the user.
    9. Once the above is complete, go back to the ‘User Rights Assignment’ node and right click on the ‘Deny access to this computer from the network’ and select properties.
    10. Ensure that the user being used during the GFI Solution installation is not listed within this list. If the user is listed, select the user from the list and click on the ‘Remove’ button.
  • If the domain credentials are used, be sure that:
    • The domain controller is online
    • The DNS is properly set and the domain names can be resolved

There could be situations when the trust relationship between workstation and domain was broken. In this situation the workstation should be re-joined to the domain. Further information can be found at the following Microsoft Knowledgebase Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162797
