Installing GFI MailSecurity pre-requisites in Windows 2008

To install GFI MailSecurity for Exchange/SMTP, Windows 2008 Web Server (IIS) role, Microsoft SMTP Services, ASP.NET and Windows Authentication services have to be installed as pre-requisites. Use this guide to assist you in installing these components under Windows 2008.
WebServer IIS Role
1. Add Web Server (IIS) role
To add the Web Server (IIS) role in Windows 2008:

In the 'Server manager' expand the 'Roles Summary' node and click 'Add Roles'.

Read the 'Before you begin' information provided in the 'Before you begin' screen and click 'Next'.

From the 'Select Server Roles' dialog select 'Web Server' (IIS) option and click 'Next'.

Note (a): If Web Server (IIS) role is already installed ensure that all the role services required for its correct operation are available. Skip to Step 2 of this installation guide for role services installation instructions.
Note (b): A dialog box prompting you to install various Web Server (IIS) dependencies may be displayed. If this is the case click on Add required role services button in the displayed dialog box to continue installation.

In the 'Select Role Services' screen click on 'Next' to install Web Server (IIS) using the default settings.

In the 'Confirm Installations Selections' screen click 'Install' to finalize Web Server IIS role installation.
2. Add Web Server (IIS) role services
If Web Server role (IIS) is already installed, ensure that the required role services are installed:

In the Server Manager dialog select Roles Summary node and click on 'Web Server (IIS)'.

From the Web Server (IIS) screen click on 'Add Role Services' option.

Select the following Role services and click 'Next':
Common HTTP features:
◦ Static Content
◦ Default Document
◦ Directory Browsing
◦ HTTP Errors
Health and Diagnostics:
◦ HTTP Logging
◦ Request Monitor
Security:
◦ Request Filtering
Performance:
◦ Static Content Compression
Management Tools:
◦ IIS Management Console

Finalize IIS Role services installation by clicking 'Install' in the 'Confirm Installation Selection' screen.
3. Check Web Server role (IIS) installation
To check if Web Server role (IIS) is successfully installed and in operation:

Open Windows Internet Explorer and in the address bar key in: http://localhost/. You should be prompted with the IIS7 splash screen as displayed in the image on the below.

4. Adding ASP.NET & Windows Authentication role services

In the Server Manager dialog select Roles Summary node and click on 'Web Server (IIS)'.

From the Web Server (IIS) screen click on 'Add Role Services' option.

Select the following Role services and click 'Next':
Application Development:
◦ ASP.NET
Security:
◦ Windows Authentication
Note: A dialog box prompting you to install various dependencies may be displayed. If this is the case click on 'Add required role services' button in the displayed dialog box to continue installation.

Finalize role services installation by clicking 'Install' in the 'Confirm Installation Selection' screen.
SMTP Server
5. Add SMTP server feature
If you are installing GFI MailSecurity in Gateway/SMTP mode (i.e. GFI MailSecurity is NOT being installed on the same machine where ANY Microsoft Exchange 2007 role is installed) you will then need to add the SMTP server feature.
To add the SMTP server feature:

From the 'Server manager' expand the 'Features Summary' node and click 'Add Features'.

In the 'Select Features' dialog choose SMTP Server and click 'Next'.
Note: A dialog box prompting you to install various SMTP Server dependencies may be displayed. If this is the case click on 'Add required role' services button in the displayed dialog box to continue installation.
6. Finalize SMTP Server feature installation
To finalize SMTP Server installation:

In the 'Select Role Services' dialog choose the role services to install and click 'Next'.
Note: It is highly recommended that the default Role Services are used for GFI MailSecurity.

Review the information displayed in the 'Confirm Installation Selections' dialog and click 'Install' to install SMTP Server and finalize installation.
