There have been many improvements to the product in this new release. The most important are listed below:

  • LANguard Scripting (LANS) - Script creator for writing complex security checks. It includes a script editor with syntax highlighting capabilities and a debugger.
    UDP Scanning.
  • Scheduled Scans - Ability to schedule GFI LANguard N.S.S. to do a scan and email the differences it finds from the previous scan. (Registered version only)
  • Query Generator - Define queries for filtering XML reports. (Registered version only)
  • Hotfix patch checker for Windows 2000/XP machine - When scanning a machine it will now check for hotfixes on it. It no longer just checks for registry keys, but will also check version specific information on key files.
  • Ability to patch Windows 2000/XP machines that are missing hotfixes - Once GFI LANguard N.S.S. has found that a machine is missing hotfixes, it is now able to push those hotfixes to the machine and either install them immediately, or schedule a time for them to install. All without user intervention. (Registered version only)
  • Ability to Customize the HTML output generated by GFI LANguard N.S.S. - Through XSL files GFI LANguard N.S.S. now provides the ability to customize what is saved into the HTML reports.
  • Configuration Manager - Ability to configure GFI LANguard N.S.S. the way you like it and save that to an initialization file. Before, if you wanted to be able to change between the type of scans, you had to manually change it each time. Now with the ability to save the configuration files and quickly reload it you can do multiple types of scans in less time.
  • More Auditing/Security Checks - The Alert Database has been updated and new Audits have been added (such as MS SQL 'sa' password audit).
  • Ability to Update Security Alerts - There is now the ability to have GFI LANguard N.S.S. go out and check for updates to Security Alerts. (Registered version only)
  • Faster - Due to multithreading, code tweaks, and other innovative changes the program is quite a bit faster than in previous versions (approximately 10-20% on most scans).

In addition to what is listed above, there have been numerous bug fixes and minor additions to the program.
